A good writer, and one who writes with care, often finds that the expression he's spent a long time hunting for without finding it, and which he finds at last, turns out to be the simplest and most natural one, which looks as if it ought to have occured to him at the beginning, without any effort. -Jean de la Bruyere 1645-96
This particular passage hits the nail right on the head with searching for a particular "idea". Often as a graphic designer myself I run into this problem often and it does turn out to be the most simplistic thoughts are the ones that are most successful. I guess with our over complicated lives we are stuck in the mindset that all problems are difficult. Yet again, a lot of my other designer friends tend to do the same and its because they are perfectionists that need to keep adding until they are satisfied, but they never really are.

Nice quote. I think it applies to any idea, like a good idea for a good design. It reminds me of modernists poets in the 20th century. Their poems are carefully thought through and has pick the sharp, clear, and precise words that best fit their works. Their motto was to exclude all abstract words but rather to find precise words that suit the image.
ReplyDeleteI like this quote. It is thought through and picks a specific idea. It is really true when we try to think about the best choice or thought. We struggle to find the best one but get to wrapped up in it all and later find out the best idea, was the most simplest.
ReplyDeleteThis quote is very true, when starting a poem or any type of project we struggle to find the best idea, but after we stress and decide to relax the best idea comes so easy to us. Therefore the best ideas come to those wait and this is what this quote is trying to say.
